INSTRUCTIONS

  1. This paper consists of sections A, B and C with a total of ten (10) questions.
  2. Answer all the questions in the spaces provided.
  3. Section A and C carry fifteen (15) marks each and section B carries seventy (70) marks.
  4. Communication devices and any unauthorized materials are not allowed in the assessment room.
  5. All writing must be in black or blue ink.
  6. Write your Assessment Number at the top right corner of every page.

SECTION A: (15 Marks)

8. (a) Your school garden is ready for harvesting maize. State four signs that show maize is ready for harvest. (Include one maize-specific example). (4 Marks)

(b) A local farmer harvests maize but stores it without drying. What are three risks of doing this? Explain your answer. (6 Marks)

9. (a) Identify and state the roles of three substances that plants take from soil to help them grow. (3 Marks)

 (b) Explain four reasons why having good quality land is important in farming. (4 Marks)

 (c) Suggest three methods that farmers can use to conserve land for future use. (3 Marks)

SECTION C: (15 Marks)

10.You are asked to give a talk at a village meeting about “The Role of Farm Mechanization in Modern Agriculture.”

In your essay, include:

  • The meaning of farm mechanization
  • Examples of simple and complex farm tools or machines
  • Activities that can be mechanized on a farm
  • Benefits such as saving time, reducing labour
  • Challenges farmers in Tanzania face in using farm machinery
