 SECTION A (15 marks)

5. (a) The First generation of computers used Vacuum tube technology, punched cards for data input, paper tape for output, machine language for writing programs, and magnetic tapes and drums for external storage. Outline five (6) Characteristics of firstgeneration computers.

 b) Anything entered into a computer is referred as input, list four types of inputs devices that can be used to entered data into a computer.

6. (a) Computers and other accessories have to be kept in a clean and conducive environment to function properly. Explain the effects of dust, humidity and temperature on computers and other accessories three points

b) Describe the function of the following keys as used in Microsoft words.

i. Enter key or Return image key:

ii. Caps lock key;

c. Most pieces of electrical and electronic equipment are designed to operate properly and within their specifications if the voltage supply varies within ±10% of normal value. However, some sensitive devices such as computers, refrigerators, televisions, and washing machines require stable incoming voltage for them to operate properly. Explains two undesirable effects of power fluctuations

In an e-mail account, a person can create, save, and receive information electronically. Explain three advantages and three disadvantages of electronic mail (e-mail).
